How To Tile Easy And Right! How to make a wall flat, plum and waterproof is a must see video if your going to tile a wall in a tub shower or anywhere.Dave Blake tile setter and license tile contractor teaches you what materials and tools you will need to make that wall flat, plum floating with fat mud.
What he shows you is how to mud in the wall. Its method that dates way back.to roman times. The water membrane is call Aquabar “B” hers a link https://www.fortifiber.com it will give all the specs on it. Then I use what looks like chicken wire to reinforce the fat mud and like it hang on the wall. Its a 20gage wire that’s self lathing I attach the two to the wall with a staple gun and 1/2″ staples.
Then I mix up the 4sand 1cement and 1lime in a mud box or a wheelbarrow with a hole .I add water till it looks like quicksand.I the put it on my mud stand and proceed to put it on the wall that I want to make flat, plumb and waterproof.
The fat mud doesn’t make it waterproof its the Aquabar paper on the wall so make sure if your nothing going to use Aquabar use something that will repeal water.I nail a 1/2″ stick along the left and right outside walls to keep the fat-mud thickness 1/2″for trim.
Now Im ready to put the fat mud on the back wall. I put the fat mud on the wall using my hawk and flat trowel with firm and even pressure.I make sure to coat the wall with a layer of fat mud no less then 1/4″ and no more then 3/4″.
Next you put your 1/4″ float strip in to the fat mud on the wall and plum and flat with a 72″ level. Tap the level plum. Then take a straight edge and run it along 1/4″ float strip to remove unwanted fat mud. Fill in voids with the fat mud . Make sure you check wall that it is plum and flat before removing float strips .
Now use your hawk and flat trowel to fill in the space or voids that will be there after the float strips are remove from the wall your floating
.Smooth the fat mud with your wood float to make sure your wall is flat and with out humps. Do the same to all the walls to have that flat, plum and waterproof wall for easy tile installation. Have a blessed ady and hit the subscribe to get more awesome how to and DIY videos at
